One or more awards valued at $4,000-$5,000 applied directly to tuition. Renewable for three years of consecutive study as long as student achieves good academic standing (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 2.0) and maintains a full-time course load (as defined by the post-secondary institution). Students planning a gap year may apply.

Applicant must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
• Be graduating this year from a Calgary High School or Charter School.
• Be entering first year at the University of Calgary or SAIT, pursuing an undergraduate degree or diploma full-time.
• Be in need of financial support. (Applicants must not be recipients of an award/bursary of equal or greater value from EducationMatters or the Calgary Foundation).
• Demonstrate high academic standing (cumulative Grade 12 average greater than or equal to 80%)
• Demonstrate leadership and community involvement.
• Provide one letter of reference.

Established in 2018 by family and friends in memory of Frances (Frankie) Bates. This award celebrates those who volunteer to help others and recognizes the importance of the role that lifeguards play in the community.

Two awards valued at $750 each, ideally one award for Innisfail students and one award for Cochrane students. Awards provided to recipients through their school.

Applicant must:

• Be aged 12 and upwards to Grade 12, pursuing certification or advancing training as a lifeguard.
• Be a well-rounded student who contributes to the community through volunteering.
• Be attending one of the following schools: Bow Valley High School, Cochrane High School, St. Timothy Jr./Sr. High School, Innisfail Middle School, Innisfail High School, St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School, or École Secondaire Notre Dame High School (residency within the Innisfail catchment school boundary).
• Provide one letter of reference (optional).

Established to help a Grade 12 student graduating from a Fairview, Alberta area high school attend a recognized Canadian university.

One scholarship of $1,000, applied directly to tuition.

Applicant must:

• Be graduating Grade 12 this year from a high school in the Fairview, Alberta area: Fairview High School, Fairview and Area Learning Store, St. Thomas Moore Catholic School, Hines Creek Composite School, or Worsley Central School.
• Be directly entering a four-year undergraduate degree at a recognized Canadian University in the upcoming year.
• Demonstrate high academic standing, community involvement, and future goals and aspirations beyond the north.

This bursary was established by the Canadian Progress Club Stampede City to honour the contributions of their longest serving member, Bill Gibson.

One award available, valued at $10,000, applied directly to tuition. Renewable for up to three consecutive years of study as long as recipient achieves good academic standing (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 2.7 or 70%) and maintains a full-time course load, as defined by the post-secondary institution (up to four years of support total).

Applicant must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, residing in Calgary.
• Be a grade 12 student graduating this year from the Calgary Board of Education or Calgary Catholic School District.
• Be entering first year of a full-time undergraduate degree program at a Calgary post-secondary institution, directly from high school (no gap year).
• Be able to demonstrate leadership in the Calgary community by volunteering through community organizations, athletics, and cultural activities.
• Demonstrate financial need. (Applicants must not be recipients of award/bursaries of equal or greater value from EducationMatters or Calgary Foundation). 
• Provide one letter of reference.

The Bradley Hillmo Anderson Memorial Award was established in 2001 in memory of Bradley Hillmo Anderson.

Brad graduated from William Aberhart High School and was enthusiastic about his recent enrolment in Business at Mount Royal University (then Mount Royal College). He was a free spirit who pursued life with vigor, taking part in family events and participating in activities with his many friends. Resourceful and entrepreneurial, Brad’s creativity brought to life many business ideas, new opportunities, and exciting adventures. Brad was very much his own man who involved himself with social issues and enjoyed nothing more than engaging in serious discussions with friends on a myriad of subjects.

Sailing held a special place in the Anderson family’s lives; Brad enjoyed sailing on the Glenmore Reservoir with his dad and brother, serving as foredeck crew during race days with the Glenmore Sailing Club, and yachting during family summer vacations on Vancouver Island. In Brad’s memory, the Bradley Hillmo Anderson Memorial Award supports students in their post-secondary endeavors.

Administered through Calgary Black Chambers, Calgary Black Chambers Pembina Leadership Scholarship recipients may be eligible to receive an internship offer from Pembina Pipeline Corporation.

The Kerry Dyte Educational Scholarship was established in 2005 by Kerry Dyte to allow a student to attend a post-secondary educational institution who otherwise might not be able to due to financial restrictions.

One scholarship valued at $4,000 minimum, applied directly to tuition.

Applicant must:

• Be graduating Grade 12 this year from a Calgary Catholic High School.
• Be entering first year of a full-time undergraduate degree or diploma program at a qualified Canadian post-secondary institution in the upcoming fall.
• Demonstrate outstanding citizenship and leadership.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Provide one letter of reference.

This bursary provides financial support to First Nations, Métis and Inuit students who plan to pursue graduate post-secondary education.

Two bursaries valued at $3,000 each, applied directly to tuition.

Applicant must:

• Be a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit student.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Be attending any year of study at an Alberta post-secondary institution pursuing a graduate degree, including medicine and law.
• Write a short essay sharing their connection to First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit culture and community, describing their educational journey, through community or schooling, and future plans and aspirations. How will financial support help them achieve their goals?
• Provide one letter of reference.

The CEEA Energy Industry Award was established by the Canadian Energy Executive Association (CEEA), a not-for-profit organization operating in the Canadian energy industry. Through business and social events, and national engagement programs, CEEA works to bring together leaders, Indigenous stakeholders, policymakers, and academia to discuss important topics affecting the Canadian energy industry and its future. This award was established to enable and encourage some of the brightest students to choose a career in the energy industry.

One or more awards valued at $10,000, applied directly to tuition.

As long as the recipient maintains award eligibility, award is renewable for up to two consecutive years of undergraduate degree or diploma study based on years of study remaining in recipient’s program when the award is initially received (up to three years of support total for degree programs, and up to two years of support total for diploma programs).

Applicant must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
• Be attending a Canadian post-secondary institution.
• Be entering second year or beyond in a full-time petroleum-focused undergraduate degree program (e.g., Petroleum/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, etc.). Preference given to students entering their second year of study. OR be entering first year or beyond in a full-time petroleum-focused undergraduate diploma program (e.g., Petroleum/Mechanical/Chemical/Instrumentation Engineering Technology, etc.). 
• Demonstrate school and/or community involvement and leadership, and high academic standing (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.7 or 80%).
• Provide one letter of reference.

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.  
• Be attending a Canadian post-secondary institution in the upcoming academic year (Fall or Winter term).  
• Be entering third or fourth year of study in a petroleum-focused Journeyperson Certification program (e.g., Boilermaker, Crane and Hoisting Operator, Heavy Equipment Technician, Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), Instrumentation and Control Technician, Ironworker, Machinist, etc.).   
• Be actively employed in a petroleum-focused role, with intent to complete Journeyperson Certification and work in the petroleum industry.  
• Demonstrate school and/or community involvement and leadership.

The Clay Riddell Community Hero Scholarship was created in 2019 to honour youth who exemplify the traits Mr. Riddell lived by – leadership, integrity and generosity. The award is given annually to up to three youth heroes that are connected with a Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink participating charity. Recipients will be invited to attend and be publicly recognized at this year’s Rogers Charity Classic.   

Up to three awards at $10,000 each, applied directly to tuition. 

Applicant must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. 
• Be connected with a 2024 Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink participating charity.  
• Demonstrate community involvement, exemplifying each of the traits of leadership, integrity and generosity. 
• Be currently enrolled in Grade 11 or graduating Grade 12 this year, and entering first year of full-time studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution within three years of receiving the scholarship. 
• Provide a reference letter from a representative of a 2024 Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink participating charity. 
• Be in good academic standing for acceptance to technical school, college or university. 

Established in memory of Douglas Parnham, founder of the Calgary Boys’ Choir to celebrate its 45th Anniversary.

• Be studying music, specializing in Choral Music and Music Education.
• Be enrolled in third year of study or beyond of an undergraduate degree or studying at the Graduate level.
• Be attending University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, Ambrose University, MacEwan University, Concordia University of Edmonton or The King’s University.
• Demonstrate a choral background, passion for teaching, music education for youth and leadership in choral conducting.
• Provide one letter of reference.

The Dr. Scott Rairdan Memorial Award was established to recognize aptitude and encourage learning in Large Animal Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Scott Rairdan graduated from William E. Hay Composite High School in 1973 with honours. He starred on the football team, served on the student’s union executive, participated in intramural sports, curling and ski clubs. Scott was outgoing, positive, and clearly an achiever who was well respected by his peers. After completing two years of pre-veterinary medicine at the University of Alberta, Scott was accepted into the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan and subsequently graduated in 1979. After building a successful veterinary practice, Dr. Rairdan went on to co-found Davis-Rairdan Embryo Transplants Ltd., an industry leader in bovine embryo transfers. Scott’s sudden passing at the young age of 40 years spawned the creation of the Scott Rairdan Foundation Fund at Calgary Foundation. Awards such as this one bestowed upon deserving young people serve to honour Scott’s memory and celebrate his zest for life!

One or more awards valued at $2,500, applied directly to tuition. Renewable for up to three consecutive years of study as long as the recipient maintains award eligibility (up to four years of support total). 

Applicant must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
• Be in any year of study pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at a Canadian post-secondary institution, with an emphasis on large animal or mixed practice veterinary medicine.
• Demonstrate aptitude and experience in large animal veterinary medicine. Preference given to students pursuing a career in large animal theriogenology and/or embryo transfer.
• Demonstrate leadership and active participation in extra-curricular activities.

As an outspoken voice for the advancement and equality of women, Dr. Maria Eriksen was a social advocate involved with various initiatives since the women’s movement began in the 1970s. Her most recent project was tackling a huge issue facing Alberta’s immigrants—obtaining the Canadian accreditation or training they require in order to become fully employed in their field.

Dr. Eriksen was the founding chair of the Immigrant Access Fund Society of Alberta (now Windmill Microlending), a nonprofit organization that offers micro loans to internationally trained and educated immigrants to help overcome the financial barriers they face in becoming able to work in their field in Alberta.

The Maria Eriksen Memorial Bursary supports professional development or technical training at an accredited institution to assist an individual’s successful transition to life in Canada.

Five bursaries at $2,000 each, applied directly to tuition.

Applicant must:

• Be an immigrant woman (Canadian citizen or permanent resident) residing in Alberta.
• Be attending school in order to return to her pre-immigration field of work.
• Be in financial need and enrolled in an accredited educational institution for the upcoming Fall.

Please note: only applicants who worked in their home country pre-immigration and are returning to this field of work are eligible to apply for this bursary. Applicants must have been employed in a specific field of work (beyond a high school diploma or equivalency).

Established by members of the Thorner/Johnston/DiMarzo Family, this bursary provides financial support to First Nations, Métis and Inuit students who plan to pursue post-secondary education.

Six bursaries valued at $3,000 each, applied directly to tuition. Four bursaries provided by the Thorner/Johnston/DiMarzo Family Fund at Calgary Foundation and two bursaries provided by Calgary Foundation.

Applicant must:

• Be a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit student.
• Demonstrate financial need. 
• Be enrolled in final year of study of an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate program at an Alberta post-secondary institution in the upcoming fall.
• Write a short essay sharing their connection to First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit culture and community, describing their future plans and aspirations and how financial support will help them achieve their goals.
• Provide one letter of reference.

The Fogolâr Furlan di Calgary is one of sixteen similar associations in Canada whose founding members originate from the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in Italy. One of the mandates of our association is the preservation of our language and, as such, we are pleased to offer this scholarship to students of Italian in Canada. Our founding members emigrated from their homeland because they sought opportunity and advancement in a new country. They worked hard for the interests of their families and the pursuit of a post-secondary education was something sought for their children. Therefore, it is only fitting that we would establish a scholarship that would promote education and financially assist students studying Italian.

One award at approximately $5,000 applied directly to tuition.

• Be an Alberta resident (either a permanent resident or a permanent resident studying full-time at a post-secondary outside the province).
• Be pursuing a graduate degree (Master’s or Doctoral) in an Italian Studies program in any year of study.
• Be committed to Italian culture.

Established to honour the memory of Fraser Lockwood, this scholarship recognizes the special ties he and his family developed with the Filipino community throughout his life.

One award valued at $2,500 minimum applied directly to tuition. Renewable for three consecutive years of study as long as student maintains enrollment in a full-time course load (as defined by the institution).

Applicant must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
• Be entering first year of full-time undergraduate studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution, immediately following graduation from Grade 12 from either a Public (Calgary Board of Education) or Separate (Calgary Catholic School District) school in Calgary.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Have contributed to the community by volunteering through church, community organizations, athletics, and cultural or political activities.
• Provide one letter of reference.
• Preference will be given to students whose families have a connection to the Filipino community.

The Stockmen’s Memorial Foundation was officially organized in 1980 by fifty founding members comprised of ranchers, farmers and individuals to commemorate the Canadian livestock industry. Created with a generous donation by Dr. Bob Church, a member of the pioneering Church family, the award recognizes their legacy, contributions, continuance and preservation of western traditions.

Applicant must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
• Be entering second year or beyond in an Agriculture or Agriculture-related Program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
• Demonstrate community involvement and good academic standing (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 2.7 or 70%).
• Write a short original essay (500-750 words) describing their agricultural background, historical family connections, connection to the livestock/agriculture industry in Western Canada and aspirations to continue the tradition.
• Provide one letter of reference.

Established by a donor who recognizes the unique challenges that single mothers face, especially the financial strain of a single income household and juggling work, school, childcare costs and motherhood. The donor wishes to help women seeking to fulfill their lives through education by opening up career choices that are satisfying and rewarding while quenching the desire for independence and self-sufficiency. This bursary is intended to support, encourage, and uplift women who experience the unusual demands of being the sole, key figure in their child or children’s lives.

Established to honour the memory of Jeanne Henuset-Fraser, to enable students from a rural background to fulfill their educational dreams at a Canadian post-secondary institution of their choice. Jeanne was raised on a farm in Pipestone Manitoba, the oldest of five siblings. She excelled in school, however, the passing of her mother necessitated Jeanne to quit school at the tender age of 12 to look after her father and her four younger brothers. As she couldn’t fulfill her dreams for higher education, she was always a strong advocate for all her nieces and nephews to attain a higher education. Jeanne hoped that this bursary would enable others to fulfill their dreams.

One or more bursaries, ranging from $500 to $2,500 in value, applied directly to tuition.

• Identify as a woman.
• Have resided in rural Manitoba (outside of Winnipeg and Brandon).
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Be entering second year of study or beyond at a Canadian post-secondary institution in the upcoming Fall.

In recognition of Jim Dinning’s contributions to public affairs of Alberta, both as a senior member of the Executive of the Government of the Province of Alberta and as a member of the Legislative Assembly representing the provincial constituency of Calgary Lougheed.

In memory of John and Ann Scheer, deeply rooted members of the Wheatland community and proud farmers of the family homestead east of Strathmore. The John and Ann Scheer Memorial Award has been established to honour their passion for life-long learning, their unrelenting optimism and perseverance through life’s challenges, and their enthusiasm for serving the Wheatland community they loved. The award will recognize a graduating Grade 12 student from a Wheatland County high school who is pursuing post-secondary education, has shown personal perseverance in their own life, and has demonstrated service to their community.

• Be graduating Grade 12 this year from a Wheatland County high school (Strathmore High School, Holy Cross Collegiate, Strathmore Storefront School, Golden Hills Learning Academy, or Wheatland Crossing School).

• Demonstrate community involvement through volunteerism, and personal perseverance.

The John Shirra Memorial Scholarship was established by John’s family, friends and business colleagues whose lives have been enriched by knowing John during his life. Born and raised in Calgary, John established two small side businesses prior to completing a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary and a Master of Business Administration from Nijenrode, the Netherlands School of Business. MBA in hand, John returned to Calgary to pursue his career in oil and gas where he rose to the role of Treasurer at Poco Petroleums before his death at age 34. John succeeded in business because he was a tireless worker and dedicated employee but first and foremost, he was a friend to all, and despite long hours at work, he maintained a balanced lifestyle. He enjoyed participating in sports, including skiing, tennis, squash, cycling and golf, and loved spending time in the mountains hiking and camping. John had a great sense of humour, a strong community spirit, and enjoyed organizing activities with his friends. As a continuing tribute to a great friend, family member and businessman, the John Shirra Memorial Scholarship was established in 1994 in John’s memory. The John Shirra Memorial Scholarship supports University of Calgary Bachelor of Commerce students who demonstrate John’s characteristics of friendship, community spirit, humour, adventure, athletics, and entrepreneurial spirit in financing their studies.

Established by Julia Turnbull to recognize future leaders, the Julia Turnbull Leadership Award supports graduating Grade 12 Calgary students who have an active and engaged interest in leadership.

An award for Canadian students working in visual arts (Applied Arts, Drawing, Multimedia (excluding electronic), Photography, Painting, Print Making or Sculpture).

One award at approximately $1,000, applied directly to tuition.

Applicant must:

• Be a Canadian citizen.
• Be registered in full-time study at a post-secondary institution in Alberta.
• Be entering their final year of studies in visual arts (excluding electronic media).
• Have good academic standing.
• Provide an artist’s statement and vision, including how this award will be helpful in the applicant’s artistic/academic career.
• Provide a maximum of eight electronic images of work with an attachment that details title, year, medium and size of each work.
• Provide two letters of reference (one must be from a studio professor).

The Kathryn Huget Leadership Award was established in memory of Kathryn Huget to recognize her leadership in business. Kathryn was a long-time champion of the important role of women in the workplace. This award supports students who are working to improve the role of leadership in business and specifically the advancement of women in leadership roles.

One award valued at a minimum of $1,000, applied directly to tuition.

Applicant must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or on a Canadian student visa.
• Be studying at the Master’s or PhD level.
• Preferably be studying in the areas of: organizational behaviour, business administration, business and commerce, sociology or psychology.
• Provide a summary of their involvement in business and leadership, and how they are working to improve the business workplace for women.
• Provide one letter from a business reference.

Preference given to women currently in leadership roles.

This special scholarship is named in memory of Derek Wandzura, a charming little boy who, with his smile and engaging personality, could hold the attention of any room. On Christmas Eve in 1986, at the age of five, Derek was diagnosed with medullablastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. During his four-year cancer journey, Derek relapsed three times and endured countless medical procedures. Even the toughest treatments could not stop the cancer and, at the age of nine, Derek passed away beside his mother, while they were sleeping on the morning of April 26, 1991. As the namesake of the scholarship, Derek’s spirit lives on in the countless young people who live their dreams, thrive and do great things with the help of a scholarship in his name.

The Kids Cancer Care Derek Wandzura Memorial Scholarship is a one-time award available to childhood cancer patients and survivors, for use in post-secondary studies.

Awards vary each year starting at $1,000, applied directly to tuition. Additional funding may be available to applicants demonstrating extenuating circumstances as a result of their experience with cancer. 

Applicant must:

• Be a childhood cancer patient or survivor. Diagnosis must have occurred at age 18 or younger.
• Be a resident of Southern Alberta*. Proof of current address/residency may be requested. Applicants must not be a recipient of the Kids with Cancer Society Bursary.
• Be enrolled in any year of study at a post-secondary institution in the upcoming academic year (fall or winter semester) pursing undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate program.

Established in memory of Kirby Morrow, a prominent voice actor and former Vancouver Acting School instructor, to honour his passion for the industry and to help support other young performers pursue their passions. Kirby had a huge impact on so many lives. He lived to give to others. This Legacy Scholarship is dedicated to helping dreamers like Kirby get quality education in the Performing Arts. By creating a lasting legacy in his name, maybe some day the Scholarship will help another Kirby from some small town realize their dreams.

• Be an Alberta or British Columbia resident.
• Be enrolled in first year of an undergraduate degree or diploma program at an Alberta or British Columbia post-secondary institution at the date of the scholarship deadline.

The Kyle Block Law Scholarship is in memory of Kyle Alfonso Block, known by his many friends, teammates and fellow musicians for his quick wit, kind heart and adventurous spirit. After graduating from William Aberhart High School, Kyle attended the University of British Columbia where he achieved top honours in Engineering and Economics. He went on to study law at the University of Saskatchewan. Kyle had a passion for hockey and music and believed strongly in equal opportunity for all. In his long and high-level hockey career, Kyle played on teams such as the Junior A Yorkton Terriers and the UBC Thunderbirds. He was known by all as a great teammate. While pursuing his post-secondary studies in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, Kyle continued to play hockey and music with his friends and teammates.

In memory of Michael Gee, a 15 year old U18 ‘A’ hockey player with NW Calgary Athletic Association. This award is based on hockey and academic performance and open to Calgary residents graduating Grade 12 playing hockey in the Calgary Minor Hockey Association – U18 Boys AA or AAA (major), U18 Girls AA or AAA.

One award, valued at $2,400, applied directly to tuition.

The recipient is eligible to claim the scholarship funds when entering post-secondary education.

• Be nominated by their coach as most deserving player on the team (only one nomination per coach).
• Be a Calgary resident playing hockey in the Calgary Minor Hockey Association – U18 Boys AA, AAA (major), U18 Girls AA or AAA.

In memory of Shelagh Mikulak who was a leader in the library community, an innovator in her field, and an inspiration to those she worked with. Shelagh valued and respected the individuals she worked with throughout her career, mentoring aspiring and established librarians alike. As a long-standing and executive member of the Calgary Law Library Group, past president of the Special Libraries Association of Western Canada, and volunteer with the Canadian Library Association and Canadian Association of Law Libraries, Shelagh dedicated her time to encouraging the professional development of others in her field.

Pianist and vocalist Vicky Oveson was an exceptionally dedicated musician, of tremendous intellect and talent. She held a B.Mus. (distinction) in Theory and Composition and an M.A. in Musicology focusing on Afro-Cuban music. Vicky was an in-demand performer, accompanist, music educator and examiner. Although she was an accomplished classical pianist, her true passion was the music, people, and culture of Cuba. The Vicky Oveson Memorial Award was established in Vicky’s memory to support trailblazing musicians who exemplify leadership, seek continuous improvement, take initiative to create opportunities, and demonstrate tenacity in pursuing their goals.
