Outward Bound Canada is redesigning their outdoor instructor training model to help new instructors from diverse backgrounds access careers in the Outdoor Sector. This new model will allow for new instructors to work alongside seasoned instructor-mentors to help build the capacity of new instructors. This will help curb the impact of the pandemic which resulted in a loss of instructors, providing employment, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to new instructors.
Parks Foundation Calgary is seeking support for the revitalization of an abandoned park located in Forest Lawn, next to the Community Association’s building. Since our previous reapplication, the park design has evolved to best meet the needs of the communities it will serve. The vision remains to provide a space to connect, play, and celebrate the diversity found in surrounding communities. Added amenities include a sport court, ice rink, rubber surface games, ample seating, pathways, and more.
Camp fYrely is an annual camp for Two Spirit and LGBGTQ+ youth (ages 14-20). The camp provides a space for youth to explore their identity, build resilience and enhance self esteem, all while having an incredible camp experience.
In collaboration with Young Caregivers Association, this project will deliver a research and pilot project initiative that focuses on implementing and testing the delivery of programs and supports for young caregivers in Alberta. The pilot will focus on young people aged 16-21, a population for which services do not currently exist in Alberta. Our active research project will build, implement, and test delivery of leading-edge caregiver programs for young people and their families. Through this research, stakeholder consultations, and community collaborations, the key project outcome will allow us to assess, identify and establish a comprehensive service and strategic plan to begin roll out of young caregiver programs across the province.
Calgary Quest Children’s Society (CQCS) is expanding and will be moving some of its programs into a second location in the fall of 2023. To prepare for this change CQCS created the Champions for Change committee consisting of seven staff members from all levels of the organization. The committee would benefit from professional outside guidance to maximize effectiveness, develop a new organizational structure, ensure a smooth transition process and develop the skills of committee members. The project will outline key elements of change management that will focus on meeting the needs of staff during the change process.
Towhid Centre is dedicated to supporting the Persian-speaking community, offering a wide range of cultural, religious, and educational programs. With the community experiencing notable growth in recent years, it becomes essential to re-evaluate the organization’s aims and aspirations. This entails crafting a fresh Community Development Plan that aligns with the current needs and concerns of the community. At the forefront of this endeavor lies the critical aspect of “Community Engagement.” It is imperative to adopt a comprehensive and efficient approach that ensures the involvement of every community member, fostering inclusivity throughout the entire process. This project will be led by an external consultant with expertise in the field.
The purpose of this project is for Easter Seals Alberta and an unnamed organization to evaluate the benefits of a merger to improve and expand services to our stakeholders and communities. The potential merger is with another disability support services non-profit with a similar mission. The intent of the merger is to align two trusted brands within the disability service industry in Calgary to streamline client experience, reduce administration and support scaling up of programs to better meet the needs of people with disabilities.
Volunteers with similar cultural background meet South Sudanese people experiencing homelessness to establish relationships, support access to community resources and provide basic needs.
