A co-ed, 12-week addiction recovery day program for adults held at Wild Rose United Church. The dynamic curriculum supports holistic recovery and includes group therapy, counselling, mindfulness practices; guiding participants through processes of exploration and empowerment. It promotes wellness and balance as the foundation for change. The program provides tools to lead participants forward in their recovery journey. The grant will pay for the non-HR expenses and a portion of HR expenses.

The Somali Canadian Society is looking to launch of a ESL program specifically designed for newcomers within the African community. Currently, the wait time for ESL classes are around 7-8 months, leaving many newcomers unable to begin learning English and integrating into the community during this extended period. This grant will enable us to start ESL program providing much-needed support for effective language learning and cultural integration right within the Somali Community.

The Big Horn 144A reserve needs new recreational amenities to support active lifestyles and socialization. The current playground structure is deteriorating, inaccessible, and unstimulating. Big Horn Health Services is undertaking this project to build an accessible, engaging, and safe structure for community members of all ages and abilities. This grant will cover materials and construction costs associated with playground redevelopment.

The Calgary Society of Community Opportunities seeks to continue offering its Pre-Employment Program to adults with disabilities in the Calgary community. This two-part initiative teaches life skills through employment training with the goal of increasing participants agency, empowerment, and independence. Skill theory is taught in the classroom and reinforced during supervised work-experience at CSCOs DJ Cafe. This grant will pay labor costs for a Program Facilitator and Cafe Manager.

Women In Need Society (WINS) is looking to buy a new vertical baler, a machine that compacts recyclable material like clothing and carboard. The Community Grant will cover the cost of the baler, enabling WINS to reduce waste and improve recycling process efficiently. Generated revenue from selling recycled material will fund our programs. it will also support our Warehouse Ready Employment Service, by helping participants gain valuable skills and work experience in the warehouse operations.

YCC has successfully operated a youth centre in the SE Calgary community of Ogden since 2019, with over 300 registered kids and average attendance of 35 youth per day. It is supported by donors, local schools, community association, social workers, CPS and the community of families of the youth. Based on our success, YCC is expanding into the community of Forest Lawn, opening our new centre this fall. We are requesting funding to support this new operation’s program materials and staffing costs

What is Your Story (WYS) hopes to integrate anti-racism within all YouthWrite operations and programming by introducing new anti-racism workshops, courses, staff training, and panel presentations (taught and facilitated by diverse artist-mentors)to our Calgary summer programming (for ages 8-19 and adults). At its heart, WYS is about YouthWrite and YouthWriters listening and giving voice to more stories, ensuring that each step of our programming helps to serve and amplify equity-deserving communities (EDCs).

This initiative will reduce financial barriers and increase participation and success of economically disadvantaged Indigenous students in business programs at Mount Royal University and its Indigenous partner institution, Old Sun Community College in Siksika Nation. Indigenous Business Education Bursaries will fund tuition expenses, and students will be eligible to receive support for multiple years of study through to degree completion, subject to successful academic progress.

GRIT Calgary Society is looking to outsource IT support and upgrade staff to Business Premium Microsoft licenses. Continuing to have IT support outsourced will allow staff to focus on supporting families and provide them with professional, secure documentation. This grant will cover the monthly cost of outsourcing our IT support as well as the additional cost of upgrading staff to Microsoft Business Premium licenses for the next two years.

ARC will expand SOGI123 in Calgary, supporting educators to create inclusive schools for 2SLGBTQ plus students and families. By aligning institutions, facilitating SOGI Educator Networks, providing best practices and producing resources, ARC will offer urgent support as educators navigate restrictive new policies. This grant funds a dedicated SOGI Lead to deliver resources and guide educators and the CBE in promoting 2SLGBTQ plus student wellbeing within the policies.
