Children living in poverty often experience chronic psychological stress, which can negatively impact their development and result in an increased risk of psychoeducational and developmental issues. The goal of this program is to improve the quality of life and educational outcomes for children through psychoeducational and occupational therapy testing and plans and interventions tailored to the family and individual.

Funding will be used to develop a Cochrane Age-Friendly Strategy, a framework to achieve our vision of being an inclusive community that celebrates all stages of life’s journey. The strategy will provide a concrete action plan, outlining short-term, medium and long term goals and deliverables, with the ultimate goal of Cochrane being a community that is not only free from physical and social barriers, but has supported policies, systems and services in place for sustainability of the plan.

Wheelchair Sports Alberta is hoping to receive support for our Wheelchair Sports in Schools program to purchase a vehicle with towing capabilities to drive our trailer with our sport wheelchairs from school to school in Calgary. The request also includes funds to assist with staffing costs and the purchase of additional sport wheelchairs, to grow the current program.

The goal of YSC Alumni Engagement is to build strong connections among our large alumni base – to turn former singers, parents, and staff from facebook friends and observers into members who are emotionally invested and actively involved in the YSC community. A recent alumni survey showed strong interest in reinvolvement. The next steps are to engage a consultant to research database and information management, and involve alumni in the co-design of an alumni office as a 1-year pilot project.

Disability Without Poverty’s initiative requires educating the average population on real-life issues of disability and poverty in Canada. Disabled individuals need to advocate for harmonization of provincial government support with the new federal income supplement. Provinces must not claw back existing disability supports, for example. Funding will be used to mobilize and popularize support in Calgary & Alberta. This includes reaching diverse racialized communities and indigenous populations.

Rocky View Foundation is looking to build a creative hub, where residents of its lodge and seniors from community can create and find companionship. The initiative’s goal is a twofold: create an inclusive place where seniors from all backgrounds and ethnicities can share their creativity and talents, as well as to allow a safe place where seniors can find companionship and improve their mental health. This unique space in the city of Airdrie will allow seniors to engage with their communities and peers.

TRUCK Contemporary Art is requesting funds to hire and support the exhibition programming for the second iteration of the Emerging Curatorial Resident program. The program will engage Indigenous community members and organizations both in the city and on nearby rural reserves in coming together to build community and produce new artworks.The program will culminate in a collaborative exhibition of craft and wearable artworks created by curated artists.

Community Empowerment Program is Skipping Stones’s core and flagship program. The program works with trans and gender diverse youth and their families to connect them with the supports, services, and skills to navigate and overcome the systemic and social barriers facing transgender and diverse individuals in Calgary and area. Through building personal capacity and a strong community support network, participants in this program are empowered to grow from surviving to thriving.

Tribe Artist Society is an Indigenous-led, Hip Hop, and arts organization. It was created in March 2021 and is seeking funding to employ its 1.5 employees for one year. During this year the employees will create and implement a plan for sustainability. In addition, Tribe Artist Society will also maintain and run three of its current Hip Hop programs and start a new program at a post-secondary institution.

Trout Unlimited Canada (TUC) is requesting funding for an expansion of the Waiparous Tributaries Reconnection Project. Funding will be used to purchase materials to replace the culverts and restore aquatic and riparian habitat at the second and final crossing location, which will complete the project as a whole.
