The Women’s Centre is a place for women to connect to a continuum of resources and supports, most importantly provide a social space for women to building community. The Centre wishes to design the right recruitment, training, onboarding, and support to take on more volunteers with lived experience. Most who have been through hard times empathize with and have the urge to reach out to others who struggle with similar problems. People with lived experience deeply understand the realities of poverty. Their stories and experiences serve as powerful tools. The desire for peer support relationships is a natural human response to shared struggles. It does not focus on diagnoses or deficits but is rooted in compassion for oneself and others.
