The purpose of this initiative is to provide accessible swimming lessons to newcomer children and youth 2) to provide culturally appropriate swimming lessons for Muslim girls, older sisters and mothers 3) to provide water safety education that includes visits to Winnipeg open waterways. 4) to understand the joys and the dangers of water.

The Steadward Bears Para-Swimming Program is the only program in Alberta that is focused exclusively on providing para-swimming opportunities to children and youth (ages 12 and up) who experience physical, sensory, and/or developmental impairments while building capacity in para-swimming coaching by training and supporting 30 volunteers in each program session. With support from these qualified coaches and volunteers, participants receive individualized program plans as they choose from two program streams: development (focused on participation or pre-competitive) or competitive.

The Calgary Civic Symphony (the Civic) board has adopted a 3-year strategic plan leading up to the 50th Anniversary Season in 2026-2027. The plan identifies 5 strategic areas of focus to position the Civic for the next 50 years. In the area of Organizational Management, a key goal and one of the first priorities is to expand staff from a 0.4 FTE Executive Director (ED) to a Full-Time ED. This is critical as many of the key functions of the ED are not able to be undertaken because of time constraints/priorities. The board has identified a very qualified search firm to identify candidates, while at the same time providing training and expertise to the board in the area of succession planning and executive hiring and governance.
