The Centre for Newcomers (CFN) and Nation’s Dental (ND) are expanding upon a successful vision care pilot to improve accessibility to preventive oral health services for low-income immigrants and refugees through the operation of a portable dental hygiene clinic. ND will collaboratively provide on-site full scope hygiene care for socioeconomically disadvantaged populations in the newcomer community using the communal space of a trusted establishment. Clients will access multi-faceted resources.

El Sistema Calgary is looking to assure resources to cover music teachers and music teacher assistants expenses at Valley View school and G W Skene school on 2024. This grant will go specifically towards labour costs.

The Cultural Bridges to Recovery project CBR aims to provide comprehensive mental health and addiction support for long-term recovery by sharing the strengths of three established organizations using a Therapeutic Communities (TC) model. The grant allows us to fill current gaps in Calgary’s recovery landscape by leveraging the strengths of OH and CFN and employing a NAM nurse to provide culturally appropriate, integrated, and innovative recovery services across an expanded continuum of care.

HSBV is looking to continue offering the Emergency Winter Shelter Program from December 2023 to April 1st 2024 which provides unhoused community members with a safe and warm place to rest. The Shelter Program also connects guests to basic needs such as food/groceries, clothing and community resources. This grant will go toward staff wages evaluation program materials and supplies and continued outreach support during and after the Shelter season.

Our goal is to give children less fortunate opportunity to participate in sports that would otherwise not be able to because of financial barriers.

“Game ON! Mobile Youth Activity Program offers opportunities for children and youth in grades 3-8 to increase their physical activity by playing games and sports that teach Fundamental Movement Skills in line with stages 1-3 and 7 of the Canada Sport for Life, Long Term Athlete Development Continuum. Programs are offered in 7 rural Renfrew County Communities, engaging over 200 underserved children and youth. GAME ON! supports communities to identify assets and share resources to offer quality activity programs for children. GAME ON! brings programs close to kids so they can participate. GAME ON! program is free so that all children can choose to be active. GAME ON! is fun and accessible for children at all stages of skill development”

Since 2020, we have granted over $3 million in communities across Canada and helped over 8,000 Cdn kids play and stay in hockey. Registration subsidies are given to income challenges families. We have had a 30% increase in demand year over year in applications. 38% of all approved applicants come from the Black, Indigenous and racialized communities. We have issued grants in all 13 member branches across Canada. 100% of the requested amount will be restricted to registration fee subsidies for kids. Hockey Canada and it’s Foundation will cover all operating expenses and not use the support dollars from the Calgary Foundation and other donors to do so.

This project will repair and upgrade our existing 88’x160′ (entirely wood) community outdoor skating rink (which was impacted by vandalism) to a level where we are not burdened with the threat of fire and dependent on considerable, annual repair, maintenance costs and commitment by volunteers. This project will re-introduce a vibrant community space beloved by residents, providing local children and families with free access to skating and ice sports.

The SMCA Outdoor Hockey Rink has visibly and physically started reaching its end of life; the rink is an extremely popular location for all season events ranging from basketball, ball hockey, lacrosse as well as hockey games/practices. SMCA does not charge for use of the facility and it has become a center piece of the NW community for people to gather and engage in numerous sports events.

Resurfacing of our tennis courts and practice court, including root removal, crack filling, repaving and repainting. Some fence repairs also required due to the settling of the ground over the years.
