Parachutes for Pets is looking to implement a Pet Safekeeping Program after identifying a need over the summer of 2023 in response to the ongoing Calgary Housing Crisis and Alberta wildfires. The goal of this program is to create a community where the welfare and safety of pets are prioritized during difficult times where pet guardians have access to the support they need, and where pets receive the care and attention they deserve contributing to a more compassionate and caring society.

Our goal is to expand the benefits of live theatre in the Bow Valley fostering inclusivity within the community by involving new audience members and participants in the creation of our theatre productions. This grant will go towards the cost of hiring a communications consultant to assist Pine Tree Players in developing a multi-year communications strategy and plan to recruit new theatre participants actors set designers wardrobe etc and audience members from diverse backgrounds.
Alberta has one of the highest rates of domestic violence and abuse in the country and it is essential for Rowan House to continue to have an office space in Okotoks for the Community Programs Outreach Preventative Education and Court Support in order to support clients and the community effectively. The Community Grant would cover rent and associated costs to have our Community Office remain in Okotoks for one year.
RASC Calgary Centre is looking to build a public astronomical observatory on Ralph Klein Park. The Observatory will be open to the public at no cost and will be operated by volunteers from the RASC Calgary Centre. In addition to showcasing the beauty of the night sky and the importance of the nocturnal environment the observatory introduces and educates the public in the science of astronomy considered to be a gateway to most other sciences math and artistic pursuits.
Many individuals and families do not know much about schizophrenia prior to the devastating diagnosis and do not understand the illness or what to expect. SSA’s programs provide education about schizophrenia, support and connection to peers in a safe environment where people can share their experiences enhance insight and reduce isolation and stigma. Family members learn how they can support their loved ones recovery and understand the importance of self-care to prevent caregiver burn out.
NILECAPD is seeking to provide culturally appropriate supports for Calgarian South Sudanese who are experiencing homelessness in order to build connections that empower them to transition from homelessness. NILECAPD will providing meals and conversations trauma and mental health group therapy with entertainment training on life skills and child trafficking protection. Procure and distribute hygiene kits, rent space for clients to find companionship, family tracing and reunification.
The Tourette OCD Alberta Network provides community-based educational and peer support programs for people living with Tourette syndrome and OCD. Programming includes an educational outreach program in schools, webinars for patients families and healthcare providers, psychologist-moderated peer support groups, and care navigation. The Tourette OCD Alberta Network helps people find psychological support, belonging, and maximize their potential. This grant will support program delivery costs.
Settlement Services in the Bow Valley SSBV has an established Community Connections Program within our greater Settlement Program; however recent IRCC funding cuts in June 2023 resulted in the loss of this program and its coordinator. Through this grant SSBV would be able to reestablish programming aimed to connect newcomers to their community through a variety of community based activities including community resources walking tours Youth and Adult Connector Programs and cultural events.
TWV is aiming to create a more impactful experience for our GAP Employability Program participants by creating a Workshop Lead position that would directly support GAP participants during their work experience shifts. This position would be directly linked with the GAP program and would alleviate workload for the current bike shop manager. This extension program would benefit GAP increase efficiencies in the bike shop and allow our organization to build capacity in multiple departments.
