A parent group organizes a cultural celebration to build community and to break social stigma their children face
Inclusio, Accessible Housing’s supportive living site for adults with disabilities/limited mobility needs to upgrade the emergency call system in the residents. For the safety of residents a very old outdated system lacking safety features expected in a supportive living site needs to be replaced. Inclusio is looking to replace the system with newer technology that will improve safety for emergency responses to falls or medical situations. The grant will go towards implementing a new system.
The project aims to enhance the use of English language among East Africans to address their low English literacy and proficiency. By expanding OCHFA’s English Language Proficiency (ELP) program this will improve East Africans’ communication in English thereby creating employment opportunities to help reduce financial barriers improving access to social programs and strengthening connections to improve their well-being. This grant enables OCHFA to expand its ELP and reach more East Africans.
Komkan is looking to provide mental health support for the South Sudanese and African community to overcome pre-immigration trauma through use of researched and Trauma Informed Culturally Sensitive practice. Our approach incorporates various competencies such as the African form of psychotherapy as well as evidence-based practices derived from theories like cognitive behavior therapy narrative exposure therapy and solution-focused therapy.
ATIC’s Play Together: Family and Youth Sports targets 100 participants in Calgary focusing on underprivileged families and youth from Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and neighboring regions. The initiative emphasizing soccer basketball and table tennis fosters community bonds and especially encourages girls participation. The grant will support coaching equipment venue rentals and special events like motivational sessions with esteemed sports figures.
This grant will support hiring more staff to continue Antyx’s existing programs that are in high demand and needing more help to keep up with requests. Antyx currently has a wait-list for community mural projects with youth and communities booking into 2024 who are ready for action. The intention for this grant is to not only catch up all murals in 2024 but respond to program needs immediately all year. Programs are free of charge with 10-week cycles of programming for youth.
Inside Out Theatre will host a year of programming for Deaf and Disabled youth, featuring performances, workshops and community events. Throughout the year Inside Out will partner with fellow arts organizations community groups and schools to develop accessible, ability-appropriate experiences that celebrate the creative spirit of Deaf and Disabled kids and revels in the community bonds formed through shared experiences.
The Calgary Climate Hub seeks funding to sustain its ongoing programs during the transition to self-sustained operations after attaining charitable status. By securing interim funding the Calgary Climate Hub will provide continued support for vital climate initiatives as they establish revenue streams like grants, donations and partnerships. This transition strategy ensures uninterrupted programming while building a foundation for long-term operational stability.
Food insecurity is an escalating issue across Canada spanning urban and rural areas alike and disproportionately affecting marginalized groups such as First Nations communities. This pressing concern emphasizes the need for support. Calgary Meals on Wheels recognizes this need and aims to extend its services beyond Calgary. This funding will allow us to partner with up to three neighbouring First Nations communities to ensure that nutritious appropriate meals reach those who need them.
The CNC is seeking financial support to cover our fixed monthly expenses, rent, parking, IT to permit us to continue our work to respond to the despair of folks who might be otherwise unable to access therapy services due to cost, lengthy waitlists, or poor fit within the public health care system. Our initiative’s goal is to offer a responsive therapy experience for marginalized clients that would respect their unique context and empower them to re-author their own stories for their futures.
