To build a warm-up shelter for hockey players and to install lights, creating a safer and healthier environment for our community members. This project at Kehewin Cree Nation aims to promote safe and accessible skating opportunities, fostering community well-being and engagement.

Our goal is to improve two baseball fields in the community of Tuscany, located Northwest Calgary. This enhancement will promote youth sports and provide a environment for the whole park. The project will increase safety for players and observers by installing side and outfield fencing and fenced-in player benches. A installation of a batting cage is also included in this project. Access to this training tool will provide our members with a better experience and teach our youth the skills they need to enjoy the sport of baseball. The batting cage will also help to reduce the risk of injury by providing a safe environment for players to practice their skills.

The lacrosse program in Southern Alberta has been successful in engaging Indigenous youth and communities. Led by Spirit North Community Program Leader, Chad Chiefmoon has developed a program and methodology that can be shared with all Spirit North leaders who are keen to bring lacrosse to their communities. This project proposes bringing one representative per region to Southern Alberta for a comprehensive training program, to experience Chads programs firsthand and bring this knowledge back to their community. We will also purchase a fleet of lacrosse equipment for each region, making access to lacrosse more accessible to Indigenous youth who participate in SN programing.

The Alberta Northern Lights Wheelchair Basketball Society is committed to fostering inclusivity and accessibility in sports for individuals with disabilities. Our mission is to create an environment where junior players can develop their basketball skills, build confidence, and learn teamwork through the sport of wheelchair basketball. To support this mission, we are seeking funding from the Doc Seaman Amateur Sports Grants 2024 to purchase basketball wheelchairs specifically designed for junior athletes. These specialized wheelchairs will enhance our programming, ensuring young players have access to the proper equipment needed to thrive and excel in the sport.
