The Western Muslim Initiative (WMI) is building the capacity of its organization and long term sustainability. The WMI is serving the community by expanding current programming that fosters creative collaboration, community, artistic expression, and spiritual and mental well-being.
This project aims to strengthen the Women s Centre internal capacity to be an inclusive place for Indigenous and Racialized women to work volunteer and get services. We will do this by building relationships with Indigenous and racialized communities creating an intentional Reconciliation and Anti-Racism strategy integrating this in all organizational processes and procedures to ensure equitable practices and ensuring there are pathways for input into all aspects of the organization.
WCS Canada’s Alberta Community Bat Program protects bats through public outreach, training and working with communities to address conservation challenges. WCS Canada has developed two initiatives to expand the reach and impact of this project. 1) an online training platform for those working around bats and 2) an initiative to document, describe and monitor bats using bridges. Together these projects will result in significant improvements in how bats are managed in the Calgary region.

The Arena’s goal is to replace the aging ice plant to ensure the long-term reliability of the vital community asset while considering the impacts which the facility has on the environment. The ice plant currently in its 43 year of operation which has well exceed its recommended life span of 25 yrs and qualified contractor’s recommend replacement before it fails. While also meeting reliability, the Arena can continue to invest in equipment upgrades which have less impacts on the environment since the current refrigerant used in the ice plant has been proven to have harmful effects it has on the ozone layer when released. The Arena provides an import role within the community to provide a place to meet and interact.
